Reduce Underarm Sweating IN OXFORDSHIRE

Having a Damp Day?

Sweat Reduction Treatment: £495

Sweating is a normal and essential function that the body performs to regulate body heat. In certain individuals, this function can be bothersome, staining clothing, leaving damp patches, and increasing self-conscious anxiety. Botulinum Toxin Type-A is a prescription-only medication, commonly known as Botox, that can be used for the temporary reduction of underarm perspiration.; in fact, the treatment can be effective on many damp body sites such as the hands, feet, thighs, and scalp. The treatment works locally where Botox is injected, blocking the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine from activating the eccrine sweat glands to produce sweat. Multiple micro-injections of a solution containing Botulinum Toxin Type-A are injected into the superficial skin of the underarm area or another damp bodily site, with a noticeable reduction of sweat production within 2 - 14 days. Treatments are usually repeated each 6-9 months.

Sweat Reduction Treatment | Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS BOTULINUM TOXIN TYPE-A AND WHY IS IT USED For sweat reduction?

Botulinum toxin is produced by the natural bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. A specific protein is extracted and purified from this to create the medication Botulinum Neurotoxin Type-A. When a small amount of this medication is injected into the superficial skin, where the sweat glands are located, it blocks nerve signals telling your glands to produce sweat.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT LIKE?

Very fine needles are used to inject small amounts of clear solution containing Botulinum Neurotoxin Type-A, into the superficial skin in the underarm area. Most patients comment that the treatment is only mildly uncomfortable. Before treatment, you are welcome to have a topical anaesthetic cream applied. You are encouraged to discuss this at your first consultation so that we can make your treatment as comfortable as possible for you. Once your consent has been obtained, treatment will generally take around 30 minutes.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Like all medications, several side effects could be experienced following treatment with Botulinum Toxin Type-A. During your consultation with the Nurse Independent Prescriber, the full known side effects will be explained as part of the consent process. You can then decide if you wish to proceed. General side effects related to the procedure itself include mild localised swelling, mild bruising and possible temporary numbness. You will be given our out-of-hours mobile telephone number in the unlikely event that you require urgent advice.

ARE THERE ANY POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS?

Yes, although these will be discussed in greater detail during your appointment:

-Avoid touching the treated areas for 4 hours after treatment.

-Avoid antiperspirant application for 24 hours

WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?

Results of Botulinum Toxin Type-A are not immediate and generally take 2-14 days to take effect.

HOW LONG WILL THE EFFECTS LAST?

The effect of duration can vary from person to person but generally lasts 6-9 months. To maintain the effect, you should repeat the treatments each 6-9 months when you notice increased sweat production.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I STOP HAVING TREATMENTS?

Once the effects of a current treatment cycle have worn off, the areas will return to their previous activity of sweat production.
