UltraClear™ Ablative Laser Resurfacing
A Safer Alternative to CO2 in Oxford
UltraClear™ is an advanced 2910nm cold fibre laser for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, designed to improve fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores, acne scarring and skin laxity. From lighter resurfacing with 3DMIRACL™ through to deeper UltraClear resurfacing and targeted Laser-Coring™, treatment can be precisely tailored according to your skin, your concerns and the level of recovery that is appropriate for you.
Lumière MediSpa was the first clinic to introduce UltraClear™ to Oxford. With more than 16 years’ experience working with advanced laser technologies, we invest in new developments when we believe they offer a meaningful advancement for our patients; not simply because they are new. UltraClear represents an important evolution in laser resurfacing, using cold fibre technology to deliver highly controlled treatment with significantly less unwanted thermal energy than traditional ablative laser technologies.
At Lumière, UltraClear is not approached as a single, standard treatment. Your practitioner will assess your skin, medical history, concerns and expectations, supported by our AURA 3D Skin Analysis, before recommending the most appropriate treatment depth and approach. This may range from a lighter 3DMIRACL™ treatment with minimal social downtime to more intensive resurfacing or targeted Laser-Coring™ for concerns including deeper lines, acne scarring and areas of skin laxity.
Our approach remains the same as it has throughout our years of working with laser: careful assessment, considered treatment and appropriate aftercare. We will recommend UltraClear only when we believe it is the right treatment for your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions | UltraClear™ Laser
-
UltraClear is an advanced 2910nm cold fibre laser designed to resurface the skin and stimulate its natural repair and remodelling processes. It creates precise, controlled microchannels within the skin while limiting unnecessary heat in the surrounding tissue. Depending on the treatment selected, UltraClear can improve fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, pigmentation, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture, acne scarring and skin laxity.
-
Traditional CO₂ lasers rely on significant thermal energy to ablate and remodel the skin. UltraClear uses 2910nm cold fibre laser technology, allowing energy to be delivered very precisely while reducing unnecessary thermal damage to surrounding tissue. This can provide effective resurfacing and collagen remodelling with a more manageable recovery than traditional fully ablative laser treatments.
-
UltraClear is not one standard treatment. At Lumière MediSpa, we can adjust the depth, intensity and treatment approach according to your skin and what you would like to address. This ranges from 3DMIRACL™ for lighter resurfacing with minimal social downtime, through to deeper UltraClear resurfacing and targeted Laser-Coring™ for more established concerns such as deeper lines, acne scarring and skin laxity. Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate approach following a consultation and skin assessment.
-
A topical anaesthetic is used for our deeper UltraClear treatments to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Patients commonly describe a feeling of heat, warmth or a slightly “spicy” sensation during and for a few hours after the treatment. The intensity will depend on the depth and type of UltraClear treatment being performed, however our experience with laser means we have tools, tips, and techniques to keep you as comfortable as possible.
-
Downtime depends on the treatment intensity. Following 3DMIRACL™, you can typically expect around 1-3 days of social downtime, with some dryness or light flaking continuing for several days. Deeper UltraClear resurfacing and Laser-Coring™ require 7-14 days of social downtime, with some pinkness continuing for a longer recovery period as the skin heals and renews. When compared to CO2 laser treatments, UltraClear laser resurfacing has a significantly shorter recovery period. Your practitioner will discuss the expected recovery with you before treatment so you can choose an approach that fits both your skin and your lifestyle.
-
Some improvements in skin brightness, clarity and texture may become noticeable within 1 week, as the initial healing settles. However, for our deeper UltraClear and Laser Coring treatments, collegen remodelling continues to develop progressively over the weeks and months following treatment. We always look forward to welcoming you back 3 months after your treatment for an AURA skin analysis and track your result progress.
-
This depends on your skin, the concern being treated and the intensity of treatment. Some patients may achieve their desired improvement following a single treatment, while concerns such as more established sun damage, acne scarring, deeper wrinkles or skin laxity may benefit from a course of treatments. We will advise you on this following assessment rather than recommending a predetermined number of sessions.
-
UltraClear can be used across a broad range of skin types and tones. However, suitability, treatment settings and the need for pre-treatment skin preparation must always be considered individually, particularly where there is a greater risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. We will assess this carefully during your consultation before recommending the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
-
Laser-Coring™ is a more intensive unique capability of the UltraClear platform that can be used selectively in areas where greater tissue remodelling is required. It creates precise cores within the skin to encourage tissue contraction and remodelling and may be considered for concerns such as skin laxity, deeper lines, wrinkles and areas of bulked or irregular tissue. At Lumière, Laser-Coring is used as a targeted addition where clinically appropriate rather than routinely treating an entire area.
-
Redness, swelling, warmth, sensitivity, dryness, flaking and temporary changes in skin colour can occur following UltraClear treatment. More intensive treatments will naturally produce a greater healing response. As with any laser procedure, there are less common risks including prolonged redness, pigmentation changes, infection and scarring. Our greatest aim is for your safety and for you to be fully informed about any treatments we recommend. These will be discussed fully during your consultation and before you consent to treatment.
-
Your aftercare will depend on the depth of your treatment. You will be given specific instructions and appropriate recovery skincare to support healing, protect the skin barrier and minimise unnecessary irritation. Sun protection is particularly important following laser resurfacing. Our clinical team will guide you through your recovery and is available 24/7 should you have any concerns following treatment.
-
UltraClear can be used to improve the appearance of certain types of acne scarring by resurfacing irregular texture and stimulating collagen remodelling. Treatment can be adjusted according to the type and severity of scarring, and deeper treatment may be appropriate in selected areas. Acne scars vary considerably, so a consultation is important to determine whether UltraClear is the most appropriate option for your individual scarring.
-
The collagen remodelling stimulated by UltraClear can produce progressive and long-lasting improvements in skin quality. However, treatment cannot stop the natural ageing process or prevent future sun damage. Good skincare, daily sun protection and, where appropriate, occasional maintenance treatments can help support and preserve your results. You may also choose to have lighter Ultraclear treatments such as the 3DMIRACL™ or our CellRenew Microneedling every 6-12 months and keep active skin stimulation, rather than waiting for the skin quality to degrade.
