FROM WITHIN : THE REGENERATIVE POWER OF POLYNUCLEOTIDES

November 20, 2025 Katelyn Munro

A New Era in Skin Regeneration

The regenerative treatment that works with your own cells to rejuvenate and recreate what ageing has stolen. Polynucleotides, also known as the ‘Fish Sperm Facial’, is one of the hot topics circulating in the aesthetic world; however, let me be clear: there is no fish sperm in the products! Polynucleotides are molecules that are extracted and highly purified from the gonads of salmon or Trout. These powerful bio-stimulatory molecules work together with your own cells to repair some of the cellular DNA damage that we accrue with ageing. Polynucleotides are distinctive for their ability to treat areas that many traditional skin boosters can't reach, such as the eyes, lips, and forehead. While traditional treatments often focus on adding volume or resurfacing the skin, this new regenerative approach is gaining recognition for its ability to improve skin quality from the inside out.

Read on to discover how these advanced treatments work, who they benefit, and why they’re quickly becoming a go-to solution for patients seeking natural, refreshed, and long-lasting results.

What Are Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides might sound like a mouthful, but they’re simply long chains made from smaller building blocks called nucleotides. If you imagine each nucleotide as a pearl on a necklace, then a polynucleotide is the complete string - strong, structured, and essential.  In nature, these chains form the basis of DNA and RNA, the genetic material found in every living cell. They help your skin function, repair, and regenerate at its natural best.

In aesthetic medicine, polynucleotides are gently injected into the skin, where they naturally break down into smaller components. These components act as raw materials the skin can use to repair damaged DNA, improve cellular communication, and restore healthy function, much like replacing the missing pearls on a damaged necklace.

This regenerative process enhances skin cell signalling, supports tissue repair, reduces inflammation, and encourages healthier collagen and elastin production. Over time, this helps the skin behave more youthfully, appearing firmer, smoother, more hydrated, and better able to renew itself. Practitioners now use precise injection techniques to treat delicate areas such as the under-eyes, lips, and forehead without adding unwanted volume, and many clinicians “prime” the skin with polynucleotides before lasers, radiofrequency or fillers to support faster healing and improved outcomes. While they share some similarities with traditional skin boosters, polynucleotides go further: instead of simply delivering hydration, they communicate directly with cells to stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production, and can be used in areas where many boosters cannot. At Lumière Medispa, we use Plinest Polynucleotides, derived from ethically sourced farmed trout through advanced HPT technology, ensuring no trace of fish remains, only pure DNA fragments that the skin naturally recognises.

The Benefits: Why They’re Loved For Skin Quality

Polynucleotides are in a league of their own when it comes to bringing tired, stressed skin back to life. Not only do they elevate overall skin quality, but they’re also incredibly versatile in the concerns they can target. They can rejuvenate delicate areas that are often overlooked, such as the under-eyes, lips (focusing on texture rather than volume), neck, and décolletage. They can even support healthier, fuller-looking hair for those experiencing thinning. The benefits that we repeatedly witness are:

Enhanced Skin Hydration

Polynucleotides have natural hygroscopic properties, meaning they attract and retain water within the skin. This increased hydration helps the skin feel softer and more supple, revives dry or dull areas, and can make fine lines linked to dehydration appear less visible.

Improved Elasticity and Firmness

By supporting the skin’s natural regeneration processes, polynucleotides encourage the production of collagen and elastin. This strengthens the skin’s underlying structure, improves firmness, and gradually enhances areas where the skin may appear lax or less resilient.

Reduction in Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Polynucleotides stimulate fibroblasts,  the cells responsible for collagen production and supporting tissue repair. Over time, this helps smooth fine lines, especially in areas prone to creasing, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and nasolabial folds. Skin texture becomes more refined and even.

Brighter, More Even-Toned Skin

Many patients notice a brighter complexion following a course of treatment, particularly under the eyes. This improvement is linked to enhanced cellular turnover, which replaces dull or damaged surface cells more efficiently. Polynucleotides also help calm inflammation, reducing redness and contributing to a more even skin tone.

Improved Appearance of Scars

Thanks to their regenerative capabilities, polynucleotides can support the remodelling of scar tissue. This includes improvements in acne scarring and post-surgical or traumatic scars, helping the skin heal more uniformly and balanced.

Polynucleotides for Hair Regrowth: How They Help

Polynucleotide therapy is increasingly becoming a go-to solution for those experiencing thinning, reduced hair density, or a receding hairline. By supporting cellular repair, improving scalp health, and strengthening follicles, polynucleotides create the ideal environment for healthier, fuller hair to grow. Some of the key benefits of Polynucleotides for hair growth are:

Strengthens Hair Follicles

Polynucleotides help reinforce the hair roots by supporting fibroblast activity and follicular regeneration. This leads to stronger strands and improved resilience.

Stimulates Natural Hair Regrowth

By revitalising dormant hair follicles, polynucleotides encourage natural regrowth and help increase overall hair density over time.

Improves Scalp Health

Their anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects help calm scalp irritation, reduce oxidative stress, and improve hydration, creating a healthier foundation for hair growth.

Enhances Scalp Circulation

Improved microcirculation ensures that follicles receive more oxygen and nutrients, supporting healthier, more sustained hair growth cycles.

Reduces Excessive Shedding

By strengthening the follicle structure and improving the hair’s growth environment, polynucleotides can help minimise shedding and promote thicker, fuller-looking hair.

Safe, Biocompatible, and Non-Surgical

Derived from purified DNA, polynucleotides are well-tolerated and do not require patch testing. As a minimal downtime, non-invasive, low-risk treatment, polynucleotide treatments offer a comfortable and effective approach to hair restoration.

What To Expect From A Polynucleotide Course

A course of polynucleotide treatments is designed to deliver gradual, natural-looking improvement by supporting your skin’s own regenerative processes. While some changes can appear early, the most transformative results develop progressively over several weeks.

To get the most out of Polynucleotide treatments, you will initially require a full course, which is two to three sessions, spaced around 2–4 weeks apart. This allows the skin to respond and rebuild between treatments. Your practitioner will use precise microinjections to place the product into targeted areas, ensuring even distribution and optimal results. Ongoing maintenance with a single top-up treatment is advised every 6 months. The frequency of ongoing maintenance will be discussed with your practitioner, as it depends on the degree of ageing, skin wrinkling/damage, and lifestyle.

Results Timeline

Early improvement (1–2 weeks):
Many patients begin to notice a healthier glow and increased hydration within the first couple of weeks. Skin may feel more supple and refreshed shortly after each session. However, this is not when we expect to see your final result…

Ongoing regeneration (up to 12 weeks):
Collagen and elastin stimulation continue to develop gradually. As the deeper structures of the skin repair and strengthen, texture, firmness, and overall radiance improve across the following weeks.

Best results (around 12 weeks):
The most noticeable changes typically appear around 12 weeks after the first treatment, once the full course is completed. At this stage, the skin looks smoother, more resilient, and more evenly hydrated.

Final results continue to refine for several months post-treatment.

Polynucleotide injections are minimally invasive. You may experience mild redness and small bumps at the injection sites for two days. These typically settle quickly, allowing you to resume normal activities with minimal downtime.

Who Is It Suitable for?

Polynucleotides can be an excellent option for a wide range of patients, thanks to their natural, regenerative properties and their ability to work safely across different anatomical areas. However, there are some important suitability considerations.

Because polynucleotides are derived from an animal source, they are not suitable for vegetarians, vegans, or anyone with a known fish allergy. As with all injectable treatments, they are also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Here at Lumière Medispa, every patient undergoes a comprehensive medical history and consultation before any treatment is carried out. This ensures safety, suitability, and the best possible clinical outcome.

Polynucleotides are ideal for individuals who want to:

  • Improve under-eye skin quality

  • Boost overall skin health

  • Address fine lines or crepiness

  • Enhance hydration

  • Maintain a natural, refreshed look without adding volume

  • Improve hair follicle health and support hair appearance, growth, and fullness.

During your consultation, your practitioner will assess your medical suitability and design a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs and desired results.

Ready To Restore Your Skin Within?

Polynucleotides represent an exciting new chapter in regenerative aesthetics, one that prioritises skin health, natural enhancement, and long-lasting results. By working in harmony with your body’s own repair processes, they offer a refined and versatile approach for patients seeking meaningful improvement without added volume or extended downtime. Whether you're looking to brighten tired under-eyes, restore skin resilience, or support healthier hair growth, polynucleotides provide a scientifically advanced yet gentle solution. If you’re considering this treatment or would like to understand how it can be personalised for your skin goals, our team at Lumière Medispa is here to guide you through every step with expert care and a focus on truly regenerative outcomes.
